The music video for Runaway is about a young girl who runs away from home and rebels against her parents. While this story unfolds, Bon Jovi performs in a kind of ruined building. In this performance, resources such as fire, explosions and smoke, which were widely used in the 80’s, stand out. In addition, throughout the video, the terrifying atmosphere and the scenes of rebellion persist. The young girl was played by a teenager Jennifer Gatti.
Runaway is a song that Jon Bon Jovi is proud of. It’s one of his favorites. But not so with the music video directed by Mike Cuesta.
The leader of the rock band had very cruel words in an interview with Spin magazine in 1986:
«I hate videos. If you want to torture me, tie me up and force me to watch our first five videos».

«For the first time we had recorded an album, we were all excited and someone decided we had to make a video for Runaway. And instead of making it about the storyline of the song, the concept was changed. It’s the worst piece of shit I’ve ever seen in my life. You see a girl with fire coming out of her eyes. They dressed us up. Riche is wearing a suit and shoes that are three sizes too big. They kept us wet with this greasy solution to make it look like we were sweating. We looked like assholes,» Jon revealed in the American music magazine.
